Coco Chanel & Chanel Classic Flap

Since my love for Chanel made me passionate about blogging and YouTube, I have decided to dedicate my first post to Gabrielle Chanel and the iconic Classic Flap.

Let’s start with a bit of history about Gabrielle Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971). She was raised in an orphanage and started her career as a singer with her sister in cafes in Paris.

Afterwards, she started as a fashion designer and firstly designed hats. She quickly became one of the most important designers in the fashion industry but was forced to shut down her business entirely during World War II and only re-entered the world of fashion in 1954 when she was already 71 years old.

I have to say that I admire her and the power that she had to turn her life around and become one of the most powerful and inspiring women in the world. It makes you learn that anything is possible in this world if you work hard and are passionate about it.

As she said herself: ”My life didn’t pleased me so I created my life.”

Chanel Classic Flap

It all started in February 1955 when Gabrielle Chanel created the Classic Flap known as the 2.55. The purpose of the bag was for women to be hands-free due to the chain strap. The Classic Flap went through a major change when Karl Lagerfeld in 1980 introduced the beautiful CC turn lock.

I fell in love with the Classic Flap years ago and when I finally got my first bag it was just like a dream coming true. In my opinion, Chanel Classic Flap is the most elegant bag. I cannot think of any other bag that expresses elegance, class and beauty more than the Classic Flap.

Nowadays it is available in 4 different sizes: Small, Medium, Jumbo and Maxi. I prefer the size Medium and Small because I think they are the most flattering for my body shape but I may add in time a Jumbo size as well.

The classic colors are Black and Beige Claire. However, they are now discontinuing the Beige Claire from the classic line and it is becoming only a seasonal color. I am lucky to have both of the classic colors.

There are two types of leather available for the classic line: lambskin and caviar. I love both types and chose to add them both in my collection. The lambskin has a luxurious feel and it looks elegant while the caviar leather is more durable and resistant to scratches.

The chain strap comes in silver and in gold. I think silver is more youthful and gold is more elegant. I prefer the gold hardware but I have silver as well on my Beige Claire.
