The Instagrammer’s Guide to Santorini

Welcome to a little piece of heaven called Santorini. This little greek island situated in the Aegean sea has attracted a lot of attention because of it’s beauty and I must say that is one of the most instragammable places in the world. Everywhere you look you can only see white and blue buildings and let me just tell you about the sunsets that in my opinion are amongst the best I have ever seen.

We went to Greece and after spending a few days in Athens we continued our holiday in Santorini. I decided to share with you the guide for the most instagrammable places there because let’s be honest everyone wants to have this perfect picture that shows the beauty of Santorini.

  OIA

The most popular city in Santorini is Oia and this little city is definitely what dreams are made of. Everything there is white and blue. Every corner of the city is picture worthy. The beautiful churches with white and blue are the main attraction and if it can get any better than this, even the stairs are made of marble.

Because Oia is the most popular city in Santorini and because of it’s beauty it attracts a lot of tourists. Imagine thousands of people trying to make that perfect picture to share it with their friends. I am not going to lie as beautiful as Oia is there are way too many tourists making it very hard to enjoy the city when you are walking on the small streets of Oia. Even if you don’t ever see people on the beautiful pictures from instagram trust me there are a lot of tourists.

My tip is to get there as early in the morning as you can to avoid the crowd. We spent one day in Oia and it only got less crowded on sunset time but if you want to make those perfect pictures and enjoy the city you definitely need to come in the morning otherwise expect huge lines to take a picture especially on the famous spots.

FIRA

The second city that you must see in Santorini is Fira or Thira. This is the capital of Santorini and in my opinion is the best place to see the sunset (ps: Oia has only partly a sunset view).

In my opinion Fira is less crowded than Oia and the buildings are just as nice and you can make a lot of nice pictures with the entire city from the hills.

In Fira you will find a lot of amazing restaurants and cafes that have not only great food but a stunning sunset view as well and trust me the sunsets there are just breathtaking. My favorite restaurant was Idol and the food was so amazing we decided to eat there for the first and last night in Santorini.

If you want to visit the rest of the island there is of course more to Santorini than Oia and Fira. For example you could visit Skaros rock (see photo below), Imerovigli or the Lighthouse. The Red Beach however is rather overrated. But overall it is a small island and my suggestion is to rent a car so you can move easily from one place to another.
