In this day and age social media can influence and affect your life a lot. It can be a place where you can get inspired or a place where you can be creative and share your passion but it can also drag you down sometimes.

Here are a few tips that I do to survive social media:

1.Select carefully the people who you follow!

If they don’t inspire, motivate you or bring you something good then you don’t really need to have them on your feed. It’s the same way as in real life. If someone is not giving you positive energy, inspiration or it just doesn’t make you feel good then you need to let them go.

You have to make sure that you follow accounts that enrich your life. Remember that you are always connected to social media and those persons will be the first you see in the morning and the last in the night.

2. Learn how to be inspired rather than jealous!

I know that sometimes it can happen that you see someone on social media with an awesome body, that is successful or has something that you may want and sometimes it can bring you down. I must confess it happened to me too. In the beginning I was always comparing myself with other influencers “why am I not growing as fast as they do?” or “my content is not as good as theirs”, “I need to make better pictures”. Those were the things I was constantly comparing myself with and it put so much pressure on me and it ended up with me just being disappointed. I realized that comparing yourself with others doesn’t get you anywhere on the contrary it brings you down. In life we have our own journey and our own goals and destiny.

You never know the process that it took for that person to get where she/he is or to achieve their body or lifestyle.

Remember that nowadays most of the things you see on instagram especially from brands or influencers are highly edited and staged / planned images.

3. It’s okay to take a social media detox sometimes!

Remember that you always have the option to take a break and I actually think that taking a break is so beneficial. In my case I love to take a social media detox in the weekends. I am definitely not breaking up with Instagram completely but I spend only 10-20 % of the time I would spend online during the week. I recently decided to put the pressure of myself and even stoped posting pictures in the weekends. One thing that you can do if you want to take a serious social media detox is to actually choose a day of the week where you can be completely offline.

4. Don’t engage with negativity!

It can happen to all of us that sometimes we get a mean comment or message but the best way is simply not to engage with that person at all. I always block people that leave me nasty / rude comments or messages because I am not going to let that negativity come into my life. Yes, it might feel that many times you would like to respond and speak your mind but trust me it’s always best to not engage with rude or small minded people. Nothing good will come out of it anyway.

I want to end this blog post by reminding everyone reading this that you are unique, there is no one like you in the world. Appreciate that and become the best version of yourself. Your life is not defined by how many likes, comments or followers you have.

  1. Hi Anda! I agree with you on many of the points you made. I am also careful with the accounts I follow which is why I only follow around 61 people – I have had to unfollow a few accounts over the years because I want Instagram to be a carefree space for me to engage with likeminded people ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. So true Steffy. I also unfollowed a few people today. I have a lot of accounts I donโ€™t actually interact with that I need to clear. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜

  3. I agree completely! Not only do I really select what accounts I follow, but I actively seek out inspirational pages on IG or FB to follow so if I am scrolling, I see uplifting or motivational posts, posts that uplift me! I too used to get caught up comparing my life to everyone else’s “seemingly perfect” life online but it really is important to realize that most people only show you their highlights you don’t see the struggle, so you can’t compare your gloomy days to their sunny days. Thanks for sharing this post ๐Ÿ™‚
